The B.C.-filmed coming-of-age tale Becoming Redwood has been named Best Canadian Feature at the 2012 Edmonton International Film Festival.

The movie, about a 1970s kid (Ryan Grantham) trying to get his ex-hippy parents back together, screened this past weekend in Edmonton and is also a coming attraction at the Vancouver International Film Festival. Director Jesse James Miller, Producer Joely Collins, and actor Grantham were in Edmonton to get their award when their film opened the Edmonton festival.

“Becoming Redwood was an easy choice,” said the Edmonton festival’s Kerrie Long. “It has so much heart and 14 year old Ryan Grantham gives a sensational performance.”
